Vaiz Enterprise stands out as a young business with great potential who provide IT solutions, Web development and Marketing strategies to both International and National organizations. I was opportune to interview Chris Hanson of Vaiz who was so helpful to grant us the answers to frequently asked questions young entrepreneurs of our age always stumble upon. Enjoy, the interview
1. What is your business name?
Vaiz Enterprises
2. What is your business about?
We supply IT solutions, Web Development, and Marketing Strategies
3. When and how did you come up with your business idea?
It was almost 4 years ago I did a website for a friends business and seen an opportunity
4. Did you have a business plan?
We created a business plan when we decided to pursue it more than a hobby
5. Did you write it or did you hire someone to write it for you?
We wrote it!
6. What did you use the business plan for?
Goal setting and guidance to keep us on track!
7. If you wrote your business plan, do you have any advice for other on how to write their business plans?
Find mock-ups of other companies in a similar sector, and compile the best categories to form your own. Give it an honest effort!
8. Do you continuously update your business plan?
Every year.
9. How did you get funding?
We focused on grinding our services to create capital, then asked family for an injection once we reached the growth stage in which we required it.
10. How much funding did you need?
We could have done it with almost 0! But we would have never gotten ahead. The more the better.
11. Was it difficult to get funding?
It always is.
12. Where did you look for funding (include even places where you were not successful at getting any funding).
Family, Bank, Investors, government
13. When did you begin operations (year?)
2007
14. How many people did you have on your team?
10
15. What were some major challenges?
being taken seriously as a young company run by young individuals
16. What were your biggest successes?
Being asked to put on workshops for the local business community. Landing our first international client. Getting our first office!
17. Where is your business now (# of employees, market share, customer base, revenue?
This year we will have a 6 figure year, and if growth continues this way we will hit 7 figures next year. Our market share is increasing enough to get attention from our competitors. We have approx 10 employees at the moment
18. Do you have some advice you can give starting entrepreneurs?
Stay focused. Do not get involved with too many ideas at one time. If you have doubts that something won’t work, either it isn’t going to or you’re not committed to that opportunity. Take a step back and reconsider. Read books, ask questions, get a mentor, and ALWAYS act like an adult no matter the situation.
19. Is there anything else that you would like to share? Anything at all?
Don’t try to force it, if you believe it will happen then it will. Pay attention to what is happening around you always, What are people doing? saying? asking? how are they doing it? Put yourself in the situation where you can meet new people. Never doubt anyone or disrespect them(how would you like it?).
20. What were your biggest fears when you decided to start your own business?
Will people take me serious?
