Yeah twitter can be a great marketing tool for you and your blog BUT when left in the wrong hands you and your blog might end up sending out the wrong message.
The other day I went through some of the lists which my friends and fellow bloggers where listed on, and I was surprised at the list I found them on. So this got me thinking! Am I on the wrong list of other twitter users?
As an entrepreneur you should learn to use social medias to your benefit, and being wrongly listed or badly listed is detrimental to your image/brand
How to know? Here is a list I came up with, which you should not find yourself on and reasons why.
1. People I don’t know
WHY: This means that the person just added you in order to build up his “following” and that he/she has no interest YES NO INTEREST in whatever you tweet. Put in order words-“ you add him no value” pretty harsh huh?
2. People who follow back
WHY: I am sure you are wondering why this is a “Bad List” to be on? This is because once you find yourself on such a list, trust me, you will get tonnes of spammers following you just for you to follow back. This means your followers would not be genuine and hence you would not be able to generate any traffic from them.
3. People around the world
WHY: As an entrepreneur, you will love to be known specifically by your “savoir-faire” and not your geography abilities. People found here tend to be “jack of all trades but master of none.
4. Follow-“anything”
WHY: Such list are usually prefixed with “-Friday”, or something like “follow-tweeples”. For someone who wants to pass out like a serious entrepreneur, this will not be a good list to be on.
Nevertheless, if you use twitter for personal use then there isn’t anything wrong you find yourself listed on these lists.
If not then here is a step by step guide to get yourself out of such lists before others get to see it:
1) Sign into your twitter account
2) Click on the part which states the amount of list on which you find yourself on
3) Then you click on the list you will like to leave.
4) This will bring you to the page of the original list, where on the top right hand you will see the owner of the list. Click on it. Then from there you will be sent to his twitter homepage.
5) When there go ahead and click on “Block user”! Congrats you are off his list.
PS: When blocking a fellow tweeple it will automatically remove him from your list of followers and vice versa.
The NICE METHOD
Just send him a DM and ask him to please remove your from the list.
Did I forget any list?
Top work brother. I hate it when you don't get reciprical benefit from people you support crazy really
Thanks a lot for the comment! Really appreciate the comment, just when I needed some encouragement to keep on with it.
I agree, but I didn't know about this good stuff thanks.
Hey man! Thanks for commenting on the blog. Hope to see you around again
Thanks for the tip on how to remove yourself from a list! Had no idea how to get rid of one guy.
Great man! thanks for visiting the blog. I am currently working on your post.
Great tips Martin. I never really thought about this, but you're def right. People are going to look at my list and see some bogus ones if I don't remove myself from them.
Happy youve liked the advice
I realised this when I was having a look at my twitter home page, Then I thought, "What if someone else sees this"
As entrepreneurs we should always be careful of the image we send out.
Pretty informative, thanks for the article. I thought when i was listed on twitter i was forever doomed to be in a not so appealing list names ha ha. Thanks!
You welcome man
Great to see you around.
There are other uses for Twitter and I highly disagree with your perception on the first two bullet points. Twitter isn't just a marketing tool, it is a valuable networking tool which can greatly benefit your business and there are valuable people who offer quality information. Not allowing strangers to follow you would mean that a lot of value in the social aspect gets diminished both for the prospective party trying to learn and network and for the person divulging the information. Same with following back.
You have to realize there are multiple audiences on Twitter and not everyone is creating a list simply to market something. Sometimes its genuinely just their channel for voicing themselves in the business world and business categories. Overlooking this can be hazardous.
