The post today will be an interview of Gloson a 12year old blogger from Malaysia. What intrigued me about Gloson was how he used blogging to showcase is artistic nature.

He is a young talented poet whose won various awards in his category and via his blog he has being able to sell the compilation of his work with already 2 books published.

1. Introduction about you and all your accomplishments till date.glosontehbook

Hi everyone! I’m Gloson, and I am a 12-year-old blogger from Malaysia. I started blogging when I was 10 years old in 2008.

I am also a poet who writes funny poetry for kids. I’ve got two poetry books published.

You can read some of my poems at my other site, Poetry Talents :-) .

In July 2009, I met the Prime Minister and the First Lady of Malaysia. The Prime Minister and his wife read my book and my blog. I performed one of my poems to them. I’ve also been featured insome newspapers about my blog.

On September 9, 2009, I have been awarded by the Malaysia Book of Records as theYoungest Published Poet in Malaysia.

Recently, on March 28, 2010, I was announced the 1st runner-up in the Blog4FT contest, a contest in which you are to promote the Federal Territories of Malaysia through blogging.

I feel very honored to have accomplished all this and I couldn’t have done it without the motivation, inspiration, support from my blog readers, friends, and parents! =)

2. Introduction of your business idea

My blog hasn’t really earned me any money yet (But I’d surely try to in the future), so it is only my potential business idea I blog about social media, blogging, and Internet tips.

My blog has helped me build my brand on the Internet and get recognition. It would surely be a good business idea in the future. :-)

3. Where did the idea come from?

Since I was always at the computer playing games, my mom suggested blogging as a hobby. So, I agreed, because blogging is popular that time and I was curious about why blogging was so interesting.

So, my blog was started on July 2008, but I only started blogging seriously in November 2008. I had planned to blog about anything interesting I learn, but since I found that most of my blog posts are about social media, blogging, and the Internet, I decided to blog about that.

4. How has your age helped you?

If you are a young entrepreneur, you would get attention and recognition easily and quickly because of the fact that you are young, which makes you stand out from the crowd! It would be easy to get media attention, interviews, etc.

You would also get lots of support from your relatives and friends; and become an inspiration and role-model to other people too.

5. How has your age hindered you?

Well, my age hasn’t really “hindered” me in blogging, but the things that I can’t do myself is pay for the hosting and domain; I need to be older to pay for it myself, so my kind parents help me with all this. :-)

6. Most important business lesson you learned

One very important business lesson I learned is: networking with friends is very important.

I think a mediocre blogger who networks with lots of bloggers will gain popularity faster than a superb writer who seldom networks. Agree?

Networking is very important in blogging as it is in business. If I hadn’t used social media to network with other bloggers, I don’t think my blog could get very much readers and visitors as it does now.

So, take advantage of social media, like twitter, facebook, etc, and become a powerful social media user, and becoming successful in blogging would be pretty easy.

My friend @askaaronlee is a power twitter user, and in January, he started his own blog. It grew really fast because he already has a lot of twitter friends. Each of his blog posts gets a lot of retweets!

7. Biggest mistakes you ever made in business

One very big mistake I’ve made is choosing a bad host for my blog (and not backing up my blog frequently). My host ‘accidentally’ deleted my blog due to an error in their billing system! I hadn’t backed up for 1 month, and had to restore all the posts, comments, etc, manually!

Conclusion is, choose a trusted host that is trusted by many (like Hostgator). Don’t fall for the cheap blog hosts; they usually are not very good and have frequent downtimes. Also read the customer reviews before buying a web host.

My blog post about how my blog host accidentally deleted my blog quickly became one of the most popular articles of my blog. So, don’t be afraid to make mistakes, for you can turn them into awesome blog posts that teach others not to repeat your mistakes!

8. Long term plans you have in mind

Some of the plans I have in mind are to come up with a free blogging ebook, and eventually, a blogging book. And as a poet, I’ll write and illustrate a new poetry book and get it published. :-)

9. What advice do you have for all other teenagers in business?

In business, it is important to be patient and not give up. If your plan is not working, try a different technique.

Most people quit blogging too early because they didn’t get any results. I suggest them waiting a little longer, and if still no results, try something new. Perhaps they could network more, or write a different blog post that stands out from the crowd, or change the design of the blog.

This applies to businesses too.

Also, you must be focused and dedicated. And as I have said, friends are really important because they always support you. And remember to be humble and friendly. Everyone loves humble and friendly people. :-)

The last and most important advice is: Make sure you follow your passions and do what you love, then find a way to make money from it. Then only will you have the motivation and passions to keep going and pursue your dreams. :-)
